Recently, I was introduced to the idea of sharing three uniques to facilitate my job search at an aligned company. As I look forward to pursuing an opportunity that can support my professional growth in HRTech/ HealthTech/ EdTech, here's my version:
1. I was the girl without a clear direction. But I took action!
One of my favourite LinkedIn thought leaders, Austin Belcak said: "Passion stems from action and action is trying new things". I was the girl without a passion.
At university, my three best friends all took degrees that would pave their ways to being a dentist, lawyer, and a investment banker (very typical Hong Kong behaviour). I honestly didn’t know what I wanted to be, but being trained to be a journalist made sense as I
a) valued how to communicate and write
b) wanted to be on top of happenings in the world
c) needed to keep a breadth of knowledge to feed my curiosity.

During undergrad, I exposed myself to multiple industries through actively pursuing internships. After grad, I burnt out after three months in a toxic environment, and decided to move to Canada to seek new perspectives, something I could take away from a different culture and perhaps give back when (or if) I return home.
Starting from Journalism > PR > Social Media > Content Strategy > Employee Engagement (hopefully) -
My career has been a full on iteration of ebbs and flows. No longevity (yet), but always learning.
If you look at my LinkedIn, I might be one of those “job hopping young employees” (Clair Kim sheds light on this subject) - but I am dedicated to find a workplace that I can be loyal to, grow with, and collaborate as a team.
2. I’m a relentless and curious experience chaser.
My only strength (I thought) was daring to try and experience different things - job duties, food, travel, hobbies - until something stuck.
Without going to France for an exchange semester, I wouldn’t have the drive and desire to make the move to Canada.
Without interning at a large corporate like Ogilvy, I wouldn’t appreciate the pace of startups.
Without all the short stints, I wouldn’t have, by process of elimination, found my interest for Employer Branding, Employee Engagement, and Internal Comms.
As for my personal life - talk to me about candle making, calligraphy, and e-scooters! I love exploring different crafts, which catalyzes my creativity and grants me new perspectives and approaches to work.

Watching the stars makes me realize the humbling scope of my problems
I'm a big fan of UFC because I'm in awe at how fighters muster so much confidence and strength to be physically fighting in front of the world
Learning the ukulele during the pandemic was such a rewarding process. Simple and beautiful, with an attainable learning curve.
3. I'm a lover of diverse stories
The best way for me to learn is through others - listening to the stories of other people saved my life as it granted me perspective and gratitude.
Growing up as a single child in a single parent family, loneliness was my best friend.
This changed, as the boundless internet granted me access to the thousands of divorce stories from teens my age. These relatable sharings have allowed me to feel a part of a larger community, and shifted my own battles with identity.
Through these stories, Empathy has become one of the strongest values in my playbook.
